Rapid Prototype/Short Run Molds

  • 100 to 100,000 parts
  • Steel and/or aluminum
  • $2500-$9000 typical
  • 1 to 4 cavities, or more
  • 2 to 5 weeks for parts

Rapid injection molds are made entirely of aluminum with the exception of steel added in key places of wear or high stress. These molds typically make runs of 100 to 100,000 parts, from any engineering material, with full part strength and with controlled mold temperatures. Lead times for molded parts (mold building plus injection molding) can be as little as 15 days, but is more typically 3-5 weeks, depending on the complexity of the mold. Sometimes, if side action coring is needed, and especially if volumes are low, a hand-loaded core system is used.

Mold cost for 1 to 4 cavities is typically in the $2000-$9,000 range. For a slightly higher cost, these molds can be constructed using P-20 steel as the cavity plate. Even after many thousands of parts, this plate can be re-furbished or inserted for engineering changes. All of these molds are built from solid blocks of aluminum and steel using very high speed CNC machining centers. We work from your engineering part models. And because users of this service are usually in a hurry, we provide quotes in a timely manner.
